Fake reviews on your Google profile: how to report and remove them

Every so often a review appears that clearly does not come from a real customer: a competitor, a coordinated attack, or simply someone who mixed up the business. Here is how to handle it without losing time or credibility.

Signs that a review is fake

• You do not recognise the person or the detail they describe.
• The facts do not match your business: date, service, product mentioned.
• It appears alongside several similar reviews in a short window, a coordinated pattern.
• The profile that wrote it has no other activity or credible history.

How to report it

From your Google profile, find the review, choose the option to report inappropriate content and pick the reason that best describes the case. Google checks it against its review policies and decides whether to remove it.

How long Google takes to resolve it

There is no guaranteed timeframe. It can take from days to weeks, depending on the volume of reports Google is processing. In the meantime, you can reply calmly without admitting facts that never happened.

What to do while you wait

Reply professionally, without confirming false details, inviting the person to contact you directly if they really were a customer. That reply is read by the rest of your profile's visitors too.

What Google does not remove

A negative but legitimate review, however unfair it feels, is not removed just because you ask. Reporting works for content that breaches the policies, not for real opinions you do not like.
