Distance is one of the algorithm's three factors. The further away the person searching is, the less your relevance and prominence count against a competitor who is close to them.

How to see it yourself
Search your category from your phone at different points across your city, not just from your premises. The difference between how you appear nearby and how you appear further out is the real area where you have work to do.
What you can do about it
You cannot move your address, but you can strengthen relevance and prominence to compete better at the edge of your area: a more specific category, steady reviews and content that reinforces which service area you work in.
For service-area businesses
If you serve several areas with no visible premises in each, define your service area properly in the profile. It helps Google understand where it should show you, instead of guessing from your registered address alone.
